Bonus Chapter: three
Lucky lifetime
It takes me longer than expected to clean up. I luckily brought my clutch when I escaped to the closet, so I at least have lipstick and powder to try and fix my face. My hair is a bit of a lost cause, but I manage to tame it from ‘freshly fucked’ to ‘got a little handsy.’
Jet and I slip out of the closet and head towards the bar without running into one of the rabid socialites. As we enter the room, Jet grabs my hand and pulls me behind a column.
“Lydia. I just have to know. Before we go through this wedding, are you sure this is what you want? Never truly being integrated into the world you grew up in? Always somewhat hidden?”
My face scrunches as I stare at him, trying to understand what he’s saying. “When have I ever said I wanted more than this? You are what I want.”
He sighs, turning his head to look at the bar. Pointing his chin at an attractive couple sitting, heads pressed together in a whispered conversation, “We’ll never be like them. We’ll never just go to a restaurant or a bar together for a date night. I’ll never be able to give you children or give you a normal life.”
He’s still staring at the tall blonde woman who laughs loudly at something her auburn haired companion says and a sad look passes over his stark white face.
I reach up and grab his chin, directing his eyes towards mine. “Look here, you big gooey goofball. You might not be like most men, but you’re mine. You are my sweetness and there is no one else in the world that I want to spend my life with. No one, do you hear me?”
“But…,” he begins to interrupt.
“But nothing, Jet! I’m serious,” I snap! “Look. We both know I can’t be trusted to make great decisions. One decision I am sure about is that I never have and never will have an interest in children. That hasn’t changed since the first time we discussed this. As for doing things, wherever you are is where I want to be.”
He shuffles, avoiding my eyes for a moment. When he fixes them on me, I see the sparks flaring within. “I just don’t want you to wake up one day and realize it wasn’t enough. I wasn’t enough,” he whispers glumly.
I step into his body, pressing my cheek to his chest. “My sweetness. My favorite part of today was the twenty minutes we spent in the closet.” When I hear him snort I add, “I’m not saying that because of the orgasms. I’m saying that because you are my world. Being with you is all I want. You are my forever.”
He wraps his arms around me and releases a huge exhale that ruffles my hair. “You are my forever, too Lydia.”
Pulling back, I feel my face shift to a glare as I smack his beefy bicep, “Now, if you ever ask me if I don’t want to be with you, especially right before our wedding, I will steal one of Dr. V’s machines. Do you understand me?”
Jet laughs softly and wraps me in his arms again, squeezing me. I feel the mild anger this conversation created fade away as I breathe him in.
“I understand, my goddess. I promise you my forever.”
